Composite Bonding

Composite Tooth Filling and Bonding

When teeth become decayed, the way that they look, and function are significantly affected. Aside from giving the smile an unhealthy appearance, decayed tooth can also cause other problems, including dental abscesses and tooth sensitivity. Composite tooth bonding and dental fillings are two treatment options that work to restore the healthy performance and form of damaged teeth.

Both composite tooth bonding and dental fillings use tooth-coloured resin to repair damaged teeth. This material can be adjusted to match the exact shade of the teeth, allowing the restoration to blend seamlessly with the existing teeth for a natural-looking smile.

Problems that Can be Treated with Composite Tooth Bonding

  • Tooth discolouration – discoloured teeth are solved with whitening treatments, but these can sometimes be ineffective when dealing with stubbornly stained teeth. A discoloured tooth can be treated with composite tooth bonding, with the resin material covering the stained parts to make the tooth look bright and healthy once more.
  • Cracked or chipped tooth – a crack on the surface of the tooth can let in bacteria that can harm the sensitive inner tissue. If left on its own, the crack can get bigger and may even result in tooth decay. Composite bonding material is applied to the chipped area to repair the damage, with the resin adjusted to match the natural tooth shade for a seamless look.
  • Irregularly shaped tooth – teeth with unnatural shapes can stand out and reduce the beauty of a smile. The affected tooth can be reshaped in a non-invasive way with the help of dental bonding. The resin material is used to improve the shape of the tooth, making it look more like the neighbouring teeth for an attractive smile.
  • Worn teeth – teeth that are prematurely worn can look unnaturally short and negatively affect the smile. This issue can be improved with the help of composite dental bonding, which works by increasing the volume of worn teeth until they look the same as other teeth.
  • Spaces between teeth – small spaces between teeth can be improved by orthodontic treatment. However, composite tooth bonding offers a way to do this enhancement in a way that is significantly faster and easier. The dental bonding material will fill the gap between teeth, offering immediate improvement without the discomfort and long treatment period associated with dental braces.

The material that is used for composite bonding is also used as dental fillings. The bonding resin is used to fill in the cavity after all the decayed parts are removed. The dental filling will cover the inner tissues of the tooth, protecting it from further damage. The tooth-coloured material integrates with the tooth structure, so it does not look too obvious (unlike amalgam dental fillings)
