Oral hygiene process which done with a dentist or hygienist called scaling and polishing. Dentist or hygienist will carefully remove hard deposits of calculus (tartar) that build up on your teeth, ultrasonic instruments or air Polishing. If there is a lot of tartar, two or three visits may be necessary.
Air polishing is a highly effective way of removing surface stains and discolouration from your teeth. It does not require an anaesthetic, and uses a pressurised steam of non-toxic aluminium-oxide powder to rapidly remove surface marks.
This procedure is especially recommended to smokers and others who have visible stains on their teeth.
Every patient has different needs. For example, if you have advanced gum disease, four visits may be required over a period of four weeks, followed by monthly visits after that. On the other hand, if you have a healthy mouth, your hygienist may recommend twice-yearly visits.
